The timely course <em>Revolutionary Ideals<\/em> connects educators with recent historical scholarship on the founding era in advance of the 250<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"appear-on-scroll\">The teachers chosen for this honor represent 37 of NHD\u2019s 58 affiliates across the country and around the world. <a href=\"https:\/\/nhd.org\/affiliates\">NHD affiliates<\/a> include all 50 states and the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and international schools. Teachers applied to participate in fall 2023.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"appear-on-scroll\">\u201cWe are excited for the impact this professional development series will have on the next generation\u2019s understanding of the founding era,\u201d said National History Day Executive Director Dr. Cathy Gorn. \u201cAs NHD celebrates our 50th year of improving the teaching and learning of history, we are incredibly fortunate to engage NHD teachers in the study and historiography of revolutionary ideals. We are proud to partner with the Dr. Scholl Foundation and look forward to the classroom learning that will follow this program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"appear-on-scroll\">Since December, these educators have worked with their peers nationwide alongside National History Day staff to explore four case studies where revolutionary ideals were put to the test. Joining live programs with leading historians, the teachers explore the latest scholarship on this topic. The National History Day Contest was established in 1974 and currently engages more than half a million students every year in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. Students present their research as a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website. Projects compete first at the local and affiliate levels, where the top entries are invited to the National Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park. NHD is sponsored in part by the 400 Years of African American History Commission, The Better Angels Society, the Bezos Family Foundation, HISTORY\u00ae, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Park Service.
