During the American Revolution, a small number of privileged women engaged in the conflict, directly or indirectly. In this lesson, students will explore the words and deeds of some Founding Mothers and evaluate which of these supported the mottos of the revolution and the ideas of freedom and equality. Using primary and secondary sources, students will learn about five influential women who bypassed the stereotypes of their traditional roles and contributed to the Revolutionary War and the shaping of the new nation.<\/p>\n\n\n
