COLLEGE PARK, MD – August 18, 2025 – National History Day® (NHD) is proud to announce the latest iteration of its Using the Resources of the Library of Congress to Develop a Historical Argument course, sponsored by the Library of Congress. The fall 2025 section is exclusively for NHD Coordinators at the regional or affiliate level. This program is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of historical argumentation and provide resources and strategies that coordinators can use to support local educators and students. This exclusive coordinator section has launched and continues through mid-December 2025.

Selected participants will complete assignments and join monthly webinars led by Dr. Christopher Hamner, associate professor of history at George Mason University. Coordinators who participate in the cohort, complete the course in good standing, and lead a virtual or in-person educator learning session by mid-December will be eligible to receive a $400 stipend for their affiliate program. This funding is intended to support a teacher workshop or professional learning opportunity where coordinators can apply and share what they learned through the course.

“National History Day’s local and affiliate program coordinators are the backbone of the NHD program,” said NHD Executive Director Dr. Cathy Gorn. “Coordinators work tirelessly year-round to deliver quality programming to students and teachers, and this program, generously sponsored by the Library of Congress, will only strengthen the quality of that programming. We are very proud of the coordinators participating in the fall 2025 cohort.”

About National History Day (NHD)

NHD is a non-profit organization based in College Park, Maryland, that seeks to improve the teaching and learning of history. The National History Day Contest was established in 1974 and currently engages more than half a million students every year in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. Students present their research as a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website. Projects compete first at the local and affiliate levels, where the top entries are invited to the National Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park. NHD is sponsored in part by the 400 Years of African American History Commission, The Better Angels Society, the Bezos Family Foundation, the Joyful Noise Charitable Foundation, the Behring Global Educational Foundation, and the National Park Service.
